Officially Ahead of Schedule!
Yes that is hard to believe that I’m saying this. We started a structure one and a half times
the size of the covered area build last year. Today we reached substantial
completion, and our cantina even had a roof temporarily.
Yes this post is written by one of your heads of
construction, and is thus going to be more about construction, but I will talk
a little about personal interactions.
After our breakfast we made our now customary journey out to
Chan Chen Elementary. Once there, our
beautifully smooth concert pad had evidence of munchkin activity. Yes there were shoe prints all over the slab,
not one, not one type, and not one direction of travel across the slab. No there were shoe prints all over and going
every which way. I thought it hilarious
that several of the kids were very quick to show me it clearly wasn’t their shoe print, by matching there shoes up with the prints in the concrete.
Today
was my first day to spend time in the class rooms. It was quite funny the kids
that were clearly accustomed to transcription exercises when they were copying
pen pal letters, rather than responding.
Before long we were back out doing construction and got very excited
with the roof. Yes I defiantly had my
OSHA approved safety harness, and tie off points, or just crawled around on the
open frame work before dragging the tin up. The siding proved more challenging
that previously imagined, and required more help from Alberto, but surprisingly
quickly the cantina had a floor, walls, and a roof (temporarily) With that, most of what remains is finishing
work. In our team debrief the group voted in favor of putting in a long day
tomorrow in attempts to get done so that we can go to “The Zoo”. So we went out
and got, hopefully, the last of our materials, and are ready to finish up
construction.
